Resistance to what is
We spend much of our lives in an attempt to run away from feelings of anxiety, insecurity and various fears. The perfect example of this resistance is the phrase “I don’t want to feel this way”. We, therapists, hear this all the time.
A huge amount of energy is wasted in the process, on resistance to our internal (and also to external) reality. This is what prevents us from achieving a feeling of harmony with ourselves and the world. What harmony can we feel if we are torn inside by our contradictions, conflicts, fears and doubts? Only by completely accepting all these inner storms, by allowing ourselves to fully experience and live through them, can we release the energy which is trapped inside and use it to create a more constructive and joyful life.
